Erika Vermeulen
Erika Vermeulen (1950) Chairperson.

I知 from Zevenbergen and have 35 years of experience in health care in the Netherlands. All my life I wanted to do some volunteer work, but I never got around to doing any. When I visited India a couple of years ago, I got to see with my own eyes how bad things were: the poverty, the lacking medical care or medical care of low quality, poor hygienic circumstances like contaminated drinking water, etc.

Back in the Netherlands I decided to offer medical help to these people. I started taking courses in tropical health care and dressing wounds, gathered materials and tried to raise money and start a foundation.

For the largest part of the year, I live in India so I can work on the project, help raise funds, do the PR, help Madhan lead the project and help carry the responsibility that every euro gets spent as it should.

Thea Hendrickx
Thea Hendrickx (1945) Seretaris.

I知 Thea Hendrickx-Hemmer and I知 the secretary of Medical Camps India. Mother of three and grandmother of four. You may be wondering how I became secretary of this wonderful initiative. It was simple: I went trekking through India with a friend and we visited the South to take a look at an orphanage in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, founded by Erika痴 daughter Hanneke. There, we met Madhan Mohan who told us about his dream. Erika stayed behind and gave shape to the plan together with Madhan.

When she came back to the Netherlands for six months, she kept working on the plan by looking for sponsors, starting a foundation and forming a board. And I joined that board.

This has been a couple of years ago and look where it has gotten us: lots of enthusiastic people are working on this amazing project together with Erika and Madhan!

And when I知 in India and I see how smooth the operation runs, how many people get help and I hear about the plans there are to expand so as to be able to help even more people, I think: That痴 what I知 doing it for, this is my goal as well.

Best wishes Thea

Ben Klijn
Ben Klijn (1944) penningmeester.

Please allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Ben Klijn, father of two sons and grandfather of two grandchildren. I am now retired and before that I worked for international companies in the organisation, management and accountancy. During my stay in India in 2008, I was deeply moved by the human suffering caused by the lack of basic medical facilities that are taken for granted in Europe. When I was riding my bike around the mountain Arunachala and I met Erika and the Medical Camps team, I saw how they helped the poorest people, among who a lot of children, with relatively limited means and a lot of dedication. Apart from the medical help, offering education is vital as well. It makes the people, who often can't read or write, aware of the fact that they too have the right to a dignified existence and the right to take their destiny into their own hands.
