All villages are in a 50 kilometer radius of Tiruvannamalai.
There is very little health care available in this area, which doesn’t meet the needs of the population.
Private clinics in the city are very expensive and most people can’t afford to visit these clinics.
When people have to go into the city for treatment, they can’t work for a day and as a consequence aren’t paid. They will also have to pay for the trip, food, consultation and medication. Most villagers can’t afford this.
Most people in the area are farmers or farm labourers with an average pay of 1.80 euros a day for men and 1 euro a day for women.
