10. Summary
- All villages are in a 50 kilometer radius of Tiruvannamalai.
- There is very little health care available in this area, which doesn’t meet the needs of the population.
- Private clinics in the city are very expensive and most people can’t afford to visit these clinics.
- When people have to go into the city for treatment, they can’t work for a day and as a consequence aren’t paid. They will also have to pay for the trip, food, consultation and medication. Most villagers can’t afford this.
- Most people in the area are farmers or farm labourers with an average pay of 1.80 euros a day for men and 1 euro a day for women.
